Arms and Ammunition
Shooting distances can vary according to the species to be hunted therefore fairly flat shooting medium calibre rifles are recommended such as the popular.30 calibre (and others such as .270 Win up to the .375 H&H, although a 6mm such as a .243 Win is suitable for the smaller antelope species). The shooting distances vary depending on the terrain one is hunting, but generally one does not shoot more than 200 - 300 yards.

An adequate supply of ammunition should be brought. It is suggested that only best premium bullets are used, such as Nosler partition, Trophy Bonded, Swift A-Frame or Barnes-X.

Hunting Equipment
Besides your rifles and ammunition, which must be transported in hard rifle cases with locks when not on the hunting ranch, a number of other items have been suggested below:

  1. A good pair of binoculars with a magnification of at least 7 to 10 power
  2. A camera with plenty of film. (Medium A.S.A films generally work well)
  3. A knife and sharpener
  4. Soft rifle cases
  5. Ammo belt or carrier
  6. Leatherman tool
  7. Flashlight with extra batteries
  8. Small rucksack or daypack
  9. Sunglasses
  10. Hat, sunscreen and insect repellent

Climate and Clothing
Depending on the season the temperatures fluctuate considerably with the summers months (November to February) being warm to hot and the winters months (May to August) being cold. Hunting clothing should therefore be chosen according to the season that the safari is to be undertaken in. Remember that although hunting is open throughout the year the best months to hunt are April through to August.
Note: all hunting clothing should be olive green, khaki or tan in colour.Ankle height light worn-in hiking boots are best for the terrain.

This is a malaria free area.
